Surrealism and tanguy
Surrealism, a word to describe an idea or creation that pushes the boundary of realism to make something out of this world. In the early 20th century artists combined together in an event called the ‘surrealism movement’. A member of this particular movement was Yves Tanguy, a French artist. Tanguy learned the talent of art at a late age in his early twenties. He taught himself how to put his ideas on a canvas. Tanguy joined the ‘surrealism movement’ in 1925, along with others such as Kay Sage, an American surrealist artist. Tanguy and Sage together, married and moved back to the United States in 1939. Tanguy builds his paintings around landscapes with eerie three dimensional tones in a spaced out environment. By achieving this atmosphere Tanguy successfully created a surrealistic artwork. ‘The Sun in its Jewel Case’ (one of Tanguy’s collection) demonstrates his style of open landscapes.
